Brass Swarf Recycling

What is brass swarf ?

Brass, as an important metal material, is widely used in machinery manufacturing, electronic equipment, building decoration and so on because of its excellent electrical conductivity, corrosion resistance and machining performance. In the process of brass processing, it will inevitably produce a large number of brass chips.

Brass swarf is mainly composed of copper (Copper) and zinc (Zinc), and usually contains a small amount of other metal elements, such as aluminum (Aluminium) and lead (Lead).
These brass shavings are irregular in shape and may be in the form of elongated curls (Shaving) or flakes or granules. The color is golden yellow or dull yellow, and the surface may have oil or coolant residue on it.

If these brass shavings are not properly disposed of, it will not only waste resources, but also pollute the environment.Brass swarf is usually piled up into a loose pile with a large volume, which takes up a lot of space in the storage and transportation process and increases the logistics cost. In addition, the loose state of brass swarf makes direct melting or reuse difficult.

Therefore, in order to recycle brass swarf efficiently, it is usually necessary to pre-treat them, including shredding and baling.

How to recycle brass chips?

For larger brass shavings, the first processing step is to crush them. This requires the use of specialized shredder equipment.

Our shredder adopts specially designed knives, which can cut and tear the brass shavings strongly, and break the originally large brass shavings into smaller pieces.

When choosing a shredder, you need to determine the appropriate equipment model and tool configuration based on the specifics of the brass chips, such as hardness, thickness, and so on.

For example, for higher hardness brass chips, it may be necessary to select a shredder with higher strength knives to ensure effective crushing.

The shredded brass scrap has a uniform particle size and increased density, allowing it to be smelted more efficiently or used directly in the manufacture of new brass products. In addition, the shredder can also process other metal wastes, such as aluminum and steel chips, to achieve comprehensive multi-metal waste recycling.

Before shredding After shredding

Although the volume of shredded brass shavings is reduced, but still in a loose state, direct transportation or smelting there are still inefficiencies. This is the need to use the briquetting machine for its compression packing. Briquetting machine through a strong pressure, the brass chip small pieces of tightly compressed together, forming a higher density of the block. This not only greatly reduces the volume of brass swarf and facilitates transportation, but also improves its efficiency in subsequent melting and other processing.

After briquetting, the brass swarf blocks can be directly sent to the furnace for melting, reducing the energy loss in the melting process, and at the same time reducing the emissions generated during the melting process. This efficient recycling method not only saves resources, but also reduces the impact on the environment, in line with the concept of sustainable development.

Before packing

After packing

After shredding and compression packing, the brass chips can be transported to professional metal recycling plants for further processing, after smelting, purification and other processes, to remove the impurities, restore its metal properties, and become raw materials that can be used for the production of brass products again. Through this recycling process, the brass shavings can be reused as a resource, reducing the dependence on new copper and zinc ores, lowering production costs and contributing to environmental protection.
